Group SUP Beginner Lessons
What to Expect
In this two hour stand up paddle boarding group beginner lesson you’ll receive tuition from me, Cami - a fully insured and ASI qualified SUP instructor with 5 years teaching experience. You’ll join in with a small group of no more than four others plus me.
My lessons are designed to teach you everything you need to be up and paddling safely in no time. We’ll spend the majority of this beginner paddling lesson on the water, after completing a land demonstration first. Throughout the lesson we’ll cover familiarising yourself with all the SUP kit, how to handle your SUP board and paddle, where to position yourself on the board, how to hold the paddle for maximum impact on the water and how to enter and exit the water safely. We’ll go over the basic techniques to get from knee paddling to stand up paddling, how to self rescue, tips for adjusting your position while on the water, basic turns and falling safely - there’s nothing quite like falling in the water with style!
We’ll go through the basics about checking the weather and water conditions and understanding how these impact your paddling. I’ll also give you advice for assessing if the conditions are suitable for you to enjoy a safe SUP adventure - particularly important if you plan on investing in your own board or hiring kit for self guided SUP trips and adventures.
SUP Locations
My base is Lancing Beach where I teach either along the coast, heading either West to Worthing or East to Shoreham or on the River Adur launching near Shoreham. That said, I’m fully mobile and can offer private SUP beginner lessons on various lagoons, lakes, reservoirs, rivers and coastal waters across Sussex and beyond (up to 90 min drive from Lancing).
SUP Season Dates
To ensure the safety of my clients, my beginner SUP lessons generally take place from mid April to October. This can vary depending on the weather at the time and sometimes I can run lessons earlier or later. However, for safety reasons I will never offer beginner lessons between December and February when the water and air temperatures are cold enough that hypothermia becomes a very real risk.
What’s Included
Use of good quality SUP boards from Fanatic with adjustable paddle, buoyancy aid and leash.
Two hours of hands on beginner stand up paddling tuition from an ASI Level 2 qualified, first aid trained, DBS checked and fully insured instructor.
There may be separate launch fees/license fees depending on our location, I will advise this upfront.
